Training Schedule

Our sessions are broadly split into different groups.

Adults

Elementary: If you started paddling this year in one of our beginner sessions, or have experience of kayaking but not of racing kayaks, you are considered to be an elementary level kayaker and you stay the elemenatry level until you meet the requirements of an intermediate.
Intermediate: You have already gained some experience in paddling, feel safe and comfortable on water and can do the 4-mile time trial within 60 minutes.
Aadvanced:  You have been paddling with us for some time and you can do the time trial under 45 minutes.

Juniors

Advanced Racking Kayak: You have been paddling with us for some time and you can do the 4 mile time trial in under 45 minutes.
Intermediate Racing Kayak: You are paddling in an adult racing boat, but are still quite new to the sport.
Intermediate Lightening: You are paddling a junior ‘lightening’ boat and have been with us sometime.
Elementary Lightening: You are new to the sport and paddling a junior ‘lightening’ boat.

 

Training Calendar

These are the session that we aim to put on every week.  Whilst every effort is made to ensure all sessions run, please bear in mind that we are a voluntary organisation and any of these sessions could be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.  We do not cancel sessions due to bad weather.  We will usually still kayak in the rain, but in very bad weather we will do gym sessions.

MONDAY at 6:30 pm: Adult off the water session
In-door gym and ERGO (paddling machine) session for adult beginners.

TUESDAY at 6:30 PM:  Advanced and Intermediate Adult and Junior Session: Paddlers must demonstrate ability and safety for night paddling, everyone must wear buoyancy aid and red/white safety lights if dark.  Juniors with a minimum age of 13 or above.

THURSDAY at 6:30 PM:Advanced and Intermediate Adult and Junior Session: Paddlers must demonstrate ability and safety for night paddling, everyone must wear buoyancy aid and red/white safety lights if dark.  Juniors with a minimum age of 13 or above.

SATURDAY at 9:00 AM: Advanced and Intermediate Adult and Junior Session: On water paddling session. This will be coached for people who want to improve their kayaking skills and get a good work out. 

SATURDAY at 10 AM: Elementary and Intermediate Adult Session:
On-water paddling session. A more leisurely session for those wanting a more relaxing paddle.  We will also be working on skills for those who want to develop more in the sport. This session is suitable for those who are new to racing kayaks.  This session is only suitable for those with prior experience of kayaking.  If you are new to the sport please see our beginner’s page.

SATURDAY at 2:00 PM: Elementary and Intermediate Junior  Session
On-water paddling session for  juniors.  This is both in K1 racing boats and lightenings.  This group will be split into smaller groups on the day.  This session is only suitable for those with prior experience of kayaking.  If your child is new to the sport please see our beginner’s page.  Adults are welcome to this session if they are coming along with their children.
